With your pills on the way – they may’ve even arrived already! – it's completely normal to have a few questions about your treatment.
But with the right guidance and support, you’ll quickly settle into a routine that works with your day-to-day life.
We’re here to set you up for success, walking you through what to expect, how to take your medication safely, and how to get the most out of your treatment in the coming weeks and months.
Key points
- Take your tablet on an empty stomach: this is easiest first thing in the morning, after you wake up.
- Consistency is key. Taking your tablet at the same time each day, and avoiding missing doses, supports steady, reliable results.
- Your plan is personal to you. Your dose and next steps are always based on how you’re getting on, not a rigid schedule, with support at every stage.
What’s in your order?
Before you get started, it’s worth taking a moment to look through your package and make sure everything is there and as expected.
Inside your order, you should find:
- 3 x blister packs (10 tablets in each)
- a patient information leaflet (PIL)
- a dispensing label with your name, prescribed dose, and pharmacist signature on the medicine box
You may also want to check that the dose on your label matches what you were prescribed, just for peace of mind.
Once you’ve confirmed everything is there, it’s a good habit to give your medication a quick check before you begin.
These are simple steps, but they’re something we recommend doing with every order you receive, not just your first. Take a moment to make sure:
- the outer packaging looks sealed and hasn’t been damaged
- the blister packs are intact and unopened
- the expiry date on the box is still valid
If anything doesn’t look quite right, don’t worry. Hold off on starting your treatment and get in touch with the myBMI team, who will be happy to support you.
How to store your treatment
After your order has arrived and you’ve checked that everything is there, you’ll need to find a place to put it.
Thankfully, storing Wegovy pills safely is both easy and convenient. All you’ve got to do is keep the pills:
- dry, and out of direct sunlight
- in their original packaging
- out of sight and reach of children
Unlike Wegovy injections, the pills don’t need to be kept in the fridge. This means you’re able to keep them with your other medication, vitamins or supplements, which can help make them a part of your routine and reduce the risk of missing a dose.
Taking your first dose with confidence
When you’re ready to actually take your first Wegovy pill, we always recommend reading the patient information leaflet beforehand.
You won’t need to read it every time, but better understanding your medication can help you feel more prepared and confident.
When using your treatment:
- Take it on an empty stomach. The easiest way to do this is to take it first thing when you wake up.
- Swallow it whole with no more than 120ml of still water. Don’t take the pill with coffee, tea, juice or any other liquids.
- Wait at least 30 minutes before eating, taking other medications, or drinking anything other than plain, still water.
- Don't chew, split or dissolve your tablet.

What to do if you’re switching from injections
If you’re switching to Wegovy tablets from weight loss injections, your starting dose depends on which medication you were taking, and what dose you were on.
Whether you’re switching from Wegovy or Mounjaro, you’ll need to wait 7 days between your last injection and first tablet. This is because one injectable dose is designed to last for a week.
5 tips for your first few weeks of treatment
After starting the Wegovy pill, over the next few weeks your body will begin to adjust. You may start to notice changes in your appetite, eating habits, and how you feel day to day.
Everyone’s experience is slightly different, but the tips below can help you feel more confident and supported as you settle into your routine.
1. Check in with your body and how it feels
As your treatment begins to take effect, you might notice that you:
- feel less hungry
- get full more quickly
- think about food differently
These changes can be subtle at first, but they’re a sign that the medication is starting to work. Weight loss might not be noticeable right away, but it’s important to remember that it’s all part of the process, and change will come!
Remember: Even small changes in appetite and habits are a positive sign that your body is responding
2. Learn how to manage any side effects
Some people may experience side effects when starting Wegovy pills, with the most common including:
- nausea
- diarrhoea
- constipation
- mild stomach discomfort
If you do experience these side effects, they’re often temporary and improve as your body gets used to the treatment. Simple changes can help manage them, like:
- eating smaller, lighter meals
- staying hydrated
- avoiding rich, fatty or heavy foods
It can also be helpful to make a note of which foods feel easier for you to tolerate, and which ones might not sit as well for now.
Remember: Side effects are usually short-lived, and support is always available if you need it.
3. Build your daily routine
Taking your medication consistently will help you get the most out of your treatment. Try making it into a part of your morning routine so it becomes second nature.
Doing things like setting a daily reminder, keeping your treatment near other medication, or linking it to another habit (like brushing your teeth) can make a big difference.
Remember: Consistency matters more than perfection, so focus on building a routine that works for you.
4. Explore healthier food habits
Wegovy can help reduce your appetite, which can make it easier to start introducing healthier habits at your own pace.
Rather than focusing on restricting what you can eat, instead try to include more balanced, nourishing foods to your diet, while paying attention to what is keeping you feeling satisfied.

Remember: You don’t need to change everything at once, small, steady changes really add up.
5. Find a physical activity you love
“Starting to move more doesn’t have to mean jumping straight into intense workouts or spending hours at the gym. In the early weeks, it’s much more important to find something you enjoy and feel comfortable doing regularly.
“It doesn’t have to be complicated! For example, you could explore short walks where you live, or other great ways to increase your activity.
“However, even smaller things like taking the stairs or parking further away from your destination, can be effective ways to get moving more. As your confidence and energy levels grow, you can always build on this over time in a way that suits your body.”

What happens next?
Treatment is usually increased gradually over time, but only if you find you’re tolerating your current dose well. In most cases, a standard Wegovy pill dosing plan means staying on a dose for at least 30 days before moving up.
Some people will be ready to increase their dose, while others may stay on the same strength a little longer. Importantly, no two journeys in weight loss are the same.
Regardless, the decision to increase is always based on how you’re getting on, including how well you’re tolerating the treatment and any side effects you may have experienced.
But don’t worry, you won’t need to work this out on your own, as our prescribing pharmacists are there to work with and guide you through your next steps as part of your ongoing care.
When to reorder
To make sure your treatment continues without a hitch, you should always reorder before you’ve run out.
As a general guide, it’s a good idea to start your reorder process when you still have around one week of medication left. This gives enough time for your follow-up consultation to be reviewed and your next order to arrive.

Frequently asked questions about starting the Wegovy pill
How long do you stay on each dose of the Wegovy pill?
Most people stay on each dose for around 30 days before moving up to the next strength.
However, this doesn’t apply to everyone. If you’re experiencing side effects or not tolerating your current dose well, you may be advised to stay on the same strength for longer.
Your treatment plan is always based on how you’re getting on, so any changes are made with your safety and comfort in mind.
Do you have to increase to 25mg?
No, you don’t have to increase to 25mg. While 25mg is typically considered the maintenance dose, not everyone will need to reach it.
Some people continue to see good results on a lower dose and may stay there if it’s working well for them and they’re tolerating it comfortably.
Your dose will only be increased if it’s appropriate for you, so you’ll never be asked to move up unless it feels right for your treatment.
Summary of starting the Wegovy pill
“Getting started with Wegovy tablets is as much about building a routine as it is about using a medication.
“In the early stages, small things like taking your tablet correctly and getting used to how your body responds can make a real difference.
“It’s also important to remember that progress isn’t measured by rushing through doses. Feeling comfortable on your treatment and finding a pace that suits you is what matters in the long term.
“Most patients find that once they’ve taken those first few steps, their confidence grows naturally and the process becomes far more familiar.
“By focusing on consistency rather than perfection, you’re putting yourself in a strong position to get the most out of your treatment."
