At myBMI, our first line treatment for obesity is semaglutide, in either injection or tablet form. Whilst many other places choose to use other medications as a first line treatment, our team of weight management specialists have drawn on their years of expertise and have decided to offer semaglutide to those that meet the criteria.
Semaglutide injections are currently called Ozempic, whilst the tablets are known as Rybelsus. Both forms contain the same medicine and work in the same way in your body – it’s up to you whichever you choose to take.
No, our price is a fixed fee of £199 for your consultation and any treatments that you may be prescribed for 28 days. This includes any treatments that you might need to combat side effects from semaglutide.
Whenever you start a new consultation (including a follow-up from the previous month) you will pay £199 and have your consultation, prescription, and any treatments included in the plan.
Most people taking semaglutide will need to increase their dose after the first month. If you’re taking semaglutide for the first time, or you’re restarting after a few weeks off, you will usually start on either a 0.25mg weekly injection or a 3mg daily tablet. At the end of this 28 day period, you should come back for another consultation to increase your dose, as Semaglutide is a medicine which requires titration.
After your first month on treatment, you may be increased to either a 0.5mg weekly injection or a 7mg daily tablet. After this, your prescriber will monitor your progress and decide with you whether to increase your dosage again. The prescriber will always make the final decision on your dosage, but you will be able to indicate your preference to them during your consultation.
The semaglutide injection (also known as Ozempic) is a weekly injection, so you should only inject yourself once a week, on the same day each week.
If you forget a dose, you should take it as soon as you remember as long as it is within five days of when you were supposed to take your injection. You should then take your next dose as planned.
If more than five days have passed since you forgot your dose, skip it, and just wait for the next dosage day to come around.
Our package is fixed at £199, which includes your consultation, any semaglutide treatments you may need, as well as any supporting treatments if you experience side effects such as nausea or diarrhoea etc.
You will pay £199 for each consultation you have, so once your treatment runs out after 28 days, you should come back to us for a review so that we can monitor your progress and make decisions with you about your treatment plan.
Yes, you can! During your consultation, you should be given an option to stay on your current treatment, or change to another form of semaglutide. You can choose to switch from injection to tablet or vice versa, as our weight management specialists are able to prescribe you an equivalent dosage to what you’re already taking.
Please note that any final decisions on treatment are made by the prescriber.
Currently, we offer semaglutide as our first line treatment for obesity, which is available in two forms – a weekly injection (Ozempic) and a daily tablet (Rybelsus).
During your first consultation, you will be asked to choose which treatment you’d like. Some people prefer to take a daily tablet instead of an injection, which is why we offer both options. Whilst the final decision lies with the specialist prescriber, your preferences will be taken into account when the decision is made.
Most people that take semaglutide for weight management find that it helps to reduce their appetite and BMI.
Current studies that look at semaglutide as a treatment for obesity show it to be an effective and safe option for reducing weight in those with a BMI of over 30.
However, as with all medications, there’s no guarantee that it will work for you, but we do recommend trying it for at least 12 weeks before deciding whether or not it’s suitable for you.
As with most prescription medicines, semaglutide does have the potential to cause side effects in some people. However, these usually go away on their own within a few weeks once your body as become used to the medication.
Most of the side effects reported with semaglutide are related to the gastrointestinal system, so you may experience nausea, vomiting, diarrhoea or constipation.
If you do experience side effects whilst taking Semaglutide through myBMI, we will also prescribe any supporting treatments that might help you with adverse effects.
Semaglutide is only available on the NHS for those with type 2 diabetes mellitus where their condition hasn’t been managed with diet, exercise, or other first line treatments such as metformin.
Semaglutide isn’t available on the NHS for weight management, which is what we prescribe it for at myBMI.
No, but it’s similar. Semaglutide is different to Saxenda, which contains the active medicine, liraglutide. You might notice that these names sound pretty similar. That’s because both drugs are GLP-1 receptor agonists, and work in the same way in your body. However, there are a few differences between semaglutide and Saxenda.
Saxenda is a daily injection, where semaglutide can be administered either as a weekly injection or in tablet form. Current studies also show semaglutide to be more effective for weight management and reduction than Saxenda.
Yes, you can switch from Saxenda to semaglutide! However, you must remember that if you switch to semaglutide injections, they should only be injected once a week instead of once every day like with Saxenda. If you swap from Saxenda to semaglutide tablets, you would still be taking a dose every day, but not via an injection.
If you want to swap from Saxenda to semaglutide, please complete a consultation with one of our experts and they will be able to determine if it’s a suitable medication for you or not. if approved, you should be able to start semaglutide the day after you stop taking Saxenda.
If you’re taking the weekly injection:
If you forgot to use your injection on your usual day, you can just inject yourself as soon as you remember, as long as it’s within 5 days from your usual injection day (for example, if you usually inject on a Monday but have forgotten, you can still take your “missed” dose up to Friday).
If more than 5 days have passed since you were supposed to use your injection, you should skip the missed dose and continue as normal when your next dose is due. Don’t inject yourself twice to make up for a forgotten dose.
If you’re taking the daily tablet:
If you forget to take a semaglutide tablet one day, just skip that day’s dose and carry on as normal the next day. Don’t take more than you’ve been prescribed each day to make up for a missed dose – just skip that day and contine as you normally would the day after.
Learn about our success stories
We're proud of our patients successes, achieved through help, support and effective treatment
"My main goal was never to look a certain way or be a certain size, I just wanted to feel like I had control over my own body, that I could embrace life and enjoy being in my twenties.
If it weren’t for Ozempic and the fantastic team of specialists who have supported me throughout this experience, I wouldn’t have gained my life back.
I’m now planning on continuing my weight loss on Ozempic alongside taking up running – something I never thought my body would achieve!"
"One of the best things about being on Ozempic is the change in my taste – I now crave natural sugars more than anything else.
The benefits have been vast. When I go shopping, I don’t have to buy from the unfairly frumpy ‘plus’ range.I go for walks and my legs don’t ache. I wore a dress with no sleeves or leggings for the first time in my life. I flew home last week and didn’t worry about awkwardly asking for a seatbelt extender. My mental health has improved hugely and I’m not afraid to say ‘yes’ to new experiences."
