Increase your Mounjaro dose

Why you should increase your Mounjaro dose, and titrate through all doses as necessary

2.5mg is the starting dose for Mounjaro. This dose is only intended to get you used to the treatment and would not be expected to result in any significant weight loss.

It’s important to slowly increase the dose rather than jump straight to the higher doses. Slowly increasing (titrating) the dose every 4 weeks reduces the impact of the Mounjaro side effects that you could experience if you increase the dose too quickly.

Your body may get used to a particular dose over time; you will notice this when your appetite starts to become more noticeable towards the end of your current pen.

This may indicate that it is time to increase to the next dose of the Mounjaro titration schedule. You may not need to increase the dose each month if you are still experiencing significant appetite suppression with your current pen.

What is the most effective dose of Mounjaro?

The most effective dose for weight loss is the 15mg dose of Mounjaro. In clinical trials, the patients who lost the most weight were taking 15mg. That being said, it’s very important to start your Mounjaro weight loss journey on a low dose and titrate up to the higher doses safely.

Mounjaro “golden dose”

The Mounjaro “golden dose” (also known as “the fifth dose”) refers to the possible leftover medication inside the Mounjaro pen, after administering all four pre-measured doses.

Patients using Mounjaro have been using a syringe needle to extract the leftover medication from the KwikPen® and injecting on the fifth week. Others have attempted to open the pen by twisting it until it locks and then using force to break the lock.

Please note that these methods of treatment are not endorsed, studied, or regulated. By administering treatment in this way, you risk inaccurate dosing. It’s also worth noting that the leftover liquid inside the pen is a part of the pen’s design and not a usable dose.

Can you maintain on 5mg Mounjaro?

5mg is one of the most common maintenance doses. You can maintain on 5mg, but you could once you reach your goal weight and are looking to maintain on Mounjaro, we advise titrating your dose down from the dose you are currently on to find the ideal maintenance dose for you. Many people find the 7.5mg to be most effective in maintenance; however, this will vary depending on your body’s response and may be higher or lower.

As you move down the doses, each time you will find the dose where you no longer lose weight, but your appetite is sufficiently suppressed to maintain the results you have achieved. Find that a higher dose is more effective for you. You may want to try a few maintenance doses before you decide which one to maintain your treatment with. 5mg, 10mg and 15mg are the most common maintenance doses; however, we usually advise maintenance on 7.5mg as this is the one most people find helps maintain their weight and appetite suppression.

Can you take two 2.5mg to make 5mg?

Eli Lilly do not recommend doubling doses to reach a higher strength. Again, there is no information, studies or regulations around combining doses. You can find important safety information on the Mounjaro patient information leaflet.

How long does Mounjaro stay in your system?

It usually takes around 30 days after your last dose for Mounjaro to completely clear from your system. If you want to stop taking Mounjaro, you can expect it to be out of your system within a month, meaning your appetite will slowly come back and side effects will fade, rather than it all stopping at once.

Can you take Mounjaro a day early?

You should take Mounjaro on the same day each week as advised by your provider, but you can take it a day early if necessary.

If the current day you inject doesn’t work, you can change it as long as it’s been at least three days since your last injection.

If you miss a dose of Mounjaro, you should take the missed dose as soon as possible.

Never take two doses of Mounjaro within three days of each other.
