You’ve taken your first step and ordered your first dose of Mounjaro. Here, we’ll walk you through everything you need to know before it arrives so you can start your journey feeling confident and supported.

Key points

Preparation is key. Getting organised before starting Mounjaro can help set the foundation for long-term success and make those first few weeks feel more manageable.

Think about your lifestyle. Take a moment to consider how your eating habits, activity levels, and social routines may evolve once treatment begins. A little planning now can help everything feel more natural and easier to stay consistent with.

Make the most of our support. Explore all our guides, written by our experts to help you understand what to expect, or get in touch with our team if you need advice. We’re here to give you clear, reliable support whenever you need it.

Preparing for your order to arrive!

Now that you’ve placed your order, here are our top tips for getting ready to start your journey.

IMPORTANT: Someone must be home to sign for your order. We cannot deliver it unless someone is there to receive it.

1. Get into your weight loss mindset

Now is a great time to get into the right mindset for what’s ahead. Starting Mounjaro is a positive step, and the right mindset really does go a long way.

You have already done the hardest part by starting. From here, it is about feeling confident, staying consistent, and knowing we are here to support you until you reach where you want to be.

Remember, 2.5mg is a starting dose designed to help your body adjust. You may not notice dramatic weight loss straight away, and that is completely normal. Real, lasting progress is built over time through small, consistent changes that become part of everyday life. But it does work, and if you stick with it, you’ll achieve your goals.

Just be patient with yourself. Weight loss is both physical and emotional, and some weeks will feel easier than others. This is not a test you can pass or fail. It’s your journey towards better health.

Think about what motivates you

Take a few minutes to reflect on why you decided to start this journey. What encouraged you to take this step? How do you hope to feel in the months ahead?

Consider writing down your goals and how you feel right now. Whether your focus is improving your health, feeling more comfortable in your body, boosting your energy, or building confidence, capturing these thoughts can give you something powerful to return to whenever your motivation dips.

Starting this journey is already a step forward. On the days when things feel challenging, looking back at your reasons for beginning can remind you just how far you’ve come and help you keep moving towards the version of you that you’re working towards.

Relax. You’ve got this.

Starting a weight loss journey can feel like a lot to take in, and it is completely normal to have questions or even a few nerves. Try not to overthink it. You have already taken the hardest step by deciding to begin. From here, it’s about staying consistent, trusting the process, and focusing on the small actions that move you closer to your goals.

Remember, you do not have to do everything perfectly. Progress comes from showing up for yourself, sticking to your plan, and allowing healthy changes to build over time.

“The most important step in any weight loss journey is the one where you decide to begin. Taking a little time to prepare before starting can make all the difference, helping you feel confident, informed, and ready for the changes ahead.

“Remember, you don’t have to be perfect. Simply thinking ahead and making small changes now can help you build a routine that sets you up for long-term success.”

2. Planning your routine and storing your treatment

Choose your injection day

As Mounjaro is a weekly injection, you need to take it on the same day each week, ideally at the same time. This means choosing a day that works with your long-term schedule. You don’t want to inject on an unpredictable day when you’ll be busy or stressed. This is a time for yourself and taking your medication, and you need to be able to focus. Go through your calendar and set the date now and add a reminder to your phone so you don’t forget.

This will be a day to look forward to as you move through treatment, knowing you’re taking back control of your health.

Important: You can change the day you take your medication once you start, and we’ll help you if you need to.

Prepare to store your treatment

Mounjaro needs to be stored in the fridge between 2°C and 8°C until you’re ready to use it. After your first injection, the pen can be kept at room temperature.

To keep your pens safe and effective, clear a space in your fridge to store them as soon as they arrive. If a pen gets too warm before use, you’ll need to throw it away as it may no longer work properly.

Just as importantly, do not let them freeze. We recommend placing any pens on the middle shelf of your fridge, where the temperature is usually more stable.

For more detailed guidance, read our storage guide for Mounjaro and Wegovy. It explains what to do if temperatures change and helps you feel confident that you’re storing your pen correctly.

3. Start thinking about lifestyle changes

Diet & nutrition come first

Just because your treatment hasn’t arrived yet doesn’t mean you shouldn’t start thinking about your diet. What you eat plays a major role in weight loss, especially when you’re on treatment. The right approach to food can support better results, help manage side effects, and set you up for long-term success.

It’s also worth preparing for the fact that your relationship with food is likely to change. You may feel full sooner, think about food less often, and notice a reduced appetite. Making a few gentle changes now can help the transition feel much smoother once you begin.

Avoiding large or heavy meals at the start is helpful, but having simple, balanced ingredients at home can make an even bigger difference. Some good staples to keep on hand include:

Lean proteins: Chicken, fish, and eggs can help you stay fuller for longer while supporting muscle health. Vegetarian or vegan options like tofu, lentils, and beans work just as well.

Easy vegetables: A simple way to increase fibre and nutrients without overthinking it. Throwing a handful of spinach into a meal or keeping frozen veg nearby can make healthy choices effortless.

Wholegrains: Choosing brown rice or wholemeal bread instead of more refined options provides steadier energy and helps support balanced blood sugar levels.

Understanding the role diet plays in weight management is essential. As your appetite naturally decreases, knowing how to build balanced meals will help you control portion sizes, nourish your body, and stay consistent throughout your journey.

Get ready to move more

Movement is a vital part of your weight loss journey. But we know this looks different for everyone. You don’t need to join a gym or start running every day. Movement is simply about finding manageable ways to do a little more, in a way that fits into your life. That might mean walking more, standing a bit longer during the day, or choosing the stairs when you can. As your journey progresses, your confidence and ability to move will likely grow, too.

Ways to start before your treatment arrives

Focus on small, achievable steps like:

  • Taking short walks throughout the week to gently build your stamina.
  • Stretching or mobility exercises you can do at home to support flexibility and reduce stiffness.
  • Choosing the stairs over the lift or escalator when possible to naturally increase your daily activity.

Why moving more is so important

Building more movement into your routine does more than support weight loss. It helps your body adapt to the changes you’re making and strengthens the healthy habits you need to keep the weight off once it’s gone. Even small increases in activity can have a meaningful impact over time.

  • Supports steady weight loss by helping your body burn more energy.
  • Helps protect muscle mass as you lose weight, which is important for long term health.
  • Boosts mood and motivation, making it easier to stay consistent.
  • Improves energy levels, even if it feels challenging at first.
  • Supports heart health and overall fitness.
  • Reinforces healthy habits that make maintaining weight loss more achievable.
“We’re here to guide you every step of the way

4. Don’t stress about side effects

Before your treatment arrives, it’s easy to focus on the “what ifs.” But try not to let the thought of side effects take over. While it’s important to understand what they are so you feel prepared, most people either don’t experience side effects or find they are mild and short lived.

Some people notice digestive changes like nausea, diarrhoea, or mild stomach discomfort in the early stages or after a dose increase. This can feel unfamiliar at first, but these effects are usually temporary and improve as your body adjusts to the medication. A few simple changes to what and how you eat, along with staying well hydrated, can make a real difference.

Most importantly, you won’t be left to manage anything alone. We’re here to support you throughout your treatment, helping you handle side effects confidently so you can stay focused on your progress.
